چکیده

In this paper, we propose an -stable 2D extension of the 1D fractional Gaussian noise. The considered model exhibits long-range dependence properties, while its stability index allows us to control the degree of spikyness of the synthesized fields. A least square method for the estimation of the three parameters of this model is also described and its performances are evaluated by a Monte Carlo study.

Fractals or I.I.D.: Evidence of Long-Range Dependence and Heavy Tailedness from Modeling German Equity Market Returns

Several studies find that the return volatility of stocks tends to exhibit long-range dependence, heavy tails, and clustering. Because stochastic processes with self-similarity possess long-range dependence and heavy tails, Rachev and Mittnik (2000) suggest employing self-similar processes to capture these characteristics in return volatility modeling. In this paper, we find using high-frequenc...

Nonstandard Limit Theorem for Infinite Variance Functionals

We consider functionals of long-range dependent Gaussian sequences with infinite variance and obtain nonstandard limit theorems. When the long-range dependence is strong enough, the limit is a Hermite process, while for weaker long-range dependence, the limit is α-stable Lévy motion. For the critical value of the long-range dependence parameter, the limit is a sum of a Hermite process and α-sta...

Heavy Traffic Methods in Wireless Systems: towards Modeling Heavy Tails and Long Range Dependence

Heavy traffic models for wireless queueing systems under short range dependence and light tail assumptions on the data traffic have been studied recently. We outline one such model considered by Buche and Kushner [7]. At the same time, similarly to what happened for wireline networks, the emergence of high capacity applications (multimedia, gaming) and inherent mechanisms (multi-access interfer...

Fractals or I.I.D.: Evidence of Long-Range Dependence and Heavy Tailedness from Modeling German Equity Market Volatility

Several studies find that return volatility of stocks tends to exhibit long-range dependence, heavy tailedness, and clustering. In this study, we use high-frequency data to empirically investigate whether a sample of stocks exhibit those characteristics. Because we do find those characteristics, as suggested by Rachev and Mittnik (2000) we employ self-similar processes to capture them in modeli...

A Long Range Dependence Stable Process and an Infinite Variance Branching System

We prove a functional limit theorem for the rescaled occupation time fluctuations of a (d, α, β)branching particle system (particles moving in R according to a symmetric α-stable Lévy process, branching law in the domain of attraction of a (1 + β)-stable law, 0 < β < 1, uniform Poisson initial state) in the case of intermediate dimensions, α/β < d < α(1 + β)/β. The limit is a process of the for...
